Feature Suggestions

Welcome to the Windows Phone Feature Suggestion Box! Please vote for a feature suggestion or submit your own!

We’ve created this site as a tool to help Microsoft understand how customers use Windows Phone and we welcome your feedback.

Standard Disclaimer – our lawyers made us put this here ;-) Please note that the Windows Phone Feature Suggestion Box is moderated and is a voluntary participation-based project, and if your submission is not a product feature suggestion it may be removed. Please do not send any novel or patentable ideas, copyrighted materials, samples or demos which you do not want to grant a license to Microsoft. See the “Terms of Use” link below for more information. Please limit your suggestions to 25 words or less.

CAST YOUR VOTES! – community feedback is active and growing … thanks! As a result, we are going to increase the number of votes you have available on your favorite suggestions from 10 to 20. Keep those suggestions and votes coming!

Please enter your feature suggestion...

You've used all your votes and won't be able to post a new idea, but you can still search and comment on existing ideas.

There are two ways to get more votes:

  • When an admin closes an idea you've voted on, you'll get your votes back from that idea.
  • You can remove your votes from an open idea you support.
  • To see ideas you have already voted on, select the "My feedback" filter and select "My open ideas".
(thinking…)

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

If a similar idea already exists, you can vote and comment on it.

If it doesn't exist, you can post your idea so others can vote on it.

Enter your idea and we'll search to see if someone has already suggested it.

  1. Provide IE 10 on WP 7.8

Given that IE10 supports web standards very well, if WP 7.8 does not have IE10 it is likely that some websites will just give up on window phone. Having to test a website with two versions of WP is not an option that most site will be willing to take.

We are truly floored by the number of feature suggestions that we have received and the excitement about future Windows Phone releases. Some of you have been wondering, “Will Windows Phone 7.8 have the same features as in Windows Phone 8?” The answer, unfortunately, is no. Windows Phone 8 is a generation shift in technology, which means that it will not run on existing hardware. BUT we care deeply about our existing customers and want to keep their phones fresh, so we’re providing the new Start screen in the upcoming 7.8 update. We’ll have more to share on the Windows Phone 7.8 update in the coming weeks.

    • BLUETOOTH FILE TRANSFER PROFILE in windows phone 7.8....DON'T WANNA BECOME A JOKE IN FRONT OG GALAXY OWNERS.

Seriously, why does Microsoft have to limit the functions in their devices unnecessarily. When I see even the small Nokia Asha feature phones having this profile so my so called Windows phone "smartphone" does not have this feature. Why has this been eliminated?? Are you going the Apple way....closed ecosystem. I do not want my friends making joke of me saying "This isn't a smartphone"....This is what happens when you stand in a group of friends where others have an Android whereas I have a Nokia Lumia.

          • WP7.8 Device Backup

Having device backup in WP8 is great, but it isn't what we voted for. We want it in WP7.8, so that we can upgrade. The WP marketing talks about making a phone for people. Guess what - one of the main things people want is to keep their stuff when they upgrade. Who cares about a new start screen (although some people might, and we'll take it) - we want to move to a WP8 device and feel like it was worth being an early adopter, not that MS totally ignored the fact we've defended WP and used it; I…

            • Orientation lock for Windows Phone 7.8

An orientation lock would be incredibly useful. I often read the news on my Windows Phone when lying on my side in bed - this causes the phone to change to landscape orientation, making it impossible to read.

Allowing the user to lock the orientation (the iPhone does this) would make for a much better experience when reading at an angle. I can't be the only person who reads in bed.

              • MORE WINDOWS PHONE 7.8 FEATURES!!

Windows phone 7.8 needs Screenshots, IE10, new dictation, over-the-air updates, new languages, office 2013, Skype VoIP (if possible), and datasmart. We know some features Windows Phone 7.8 can't have that Windows Phone 8 will have, but these features shouldn't be a problem.

Skype needs to be integrated into people hub like Facebook. Allow Skype to run in the background to receive calls and notifications.

                  • Add the screenshot cabability on Windows Phone 8 to Windows Phone 7.8

Please add the screenshot capability (Windows key + camera button) on Windows Phone 8 to Windows Phone 7.8. This is an extremely useful tool, and adding it to 7.8 would be awesome!

                      • Please rename Windows Phone 7.8 as Windows Phone 8 CE or something

Just like apple give the iOS to iphone 3GS, but 3GS don't get the whole package. Please rename it.
You will lose a lot of customers if you don't call it WP8. And you'll drag Nokia to the ****. Please rename it. Please! Or none of the WP7 would be sold.

We care about your suggestions, but we can’t use this grab-bag of features because there’s no way to know which of the features each person is voting for. We would like to know SPECIFICALLY what features you would like to see we need you to vote INDIVIDUALLY for the one that you want most (vs. one large grab bag of features). Please reallocate your votes to single features from this.

A file system browser for Windows Phone 7.8. The file system should be accessible through my computer in windows 7 when the phone is connected to the computer with a data cable.

                                • Windows Phone 7.8 needs IE10, Screenshots, compatible apps of Windows Phone 8, Office 2013, OTA updates

I think that Windows Phone 7.8 need to be the most similar as possible to WP8. It needs the IE10, screenshots, all the compatible apps that will be available on Windows Phone 8. The download of apps higher than 20MB by the 3G. And we from Brazil also want the applications available on the Windows Phone Store (Marketplace) from U.S. here in Brazil! This would be really awesome!

This only happens if the phone has not yet locked. The phone does not lock immediately on pressing the power button, so when you tested this you probably didn’t wait for the phone to lock
