Enable USB storage
It would be nice to be able to use Windows Phone devices as USB storage
This feature is now available in Windows Phone 8. Please note that while Windows Phone 8 doesn’t support USB mass storage with a full file explorer, it does support reading/writing pictures, music, videos and ringtones very similar to the way you normal would with a USB drive.

I think mass storage goes against the idea of WP.. I think upgrading zune to work better with our phones and to have more user friendly transfers is now the way to go

transferring files and read/open them on a Mango phone should be must (was possible on old WinMobile phones, so this is a step backwards!!!)); also letting one select & copy whole directories of music or photos directly would be great - instead of going through Zune's restricted selection by, in the case of music, album, artist etc. which does not always capture what I want (or way to much) - I for example want to copy a directory with my weekly audio version of a news magazine I listen to (that I delete afterwards) - no way to synch this easily with my new Mango phone (I found a workaround by changing the concerned files' properties to a very specific setting - using a user specific "genre" in may case - and creating a dynamic playlist using these properties.... life was easier, in this repsect at least, on my old WinMobile phone...

It would be really useful to transfer files quickly where they don't have Zune.

Recently, I was trying to configure my WiFi router which was down for some configuration issues. I asked my friend to email me the config file of the router (config.bin). I got email on my Nokia Lumia 800, but the first problem was that the attachement was not downloaded because of unrecognized file types. Secondly there was no mode where I could copy the file from phone to PC. Android has USB mass storage support.

Ok guys, that's not gonna happen. EVER. Why? Because MS needs to somehow make you use zune, skydrive, office 365, all this "cloud stuff". Why do u think Apple is doing the same? That's also the reason for not supporting sd cards.

It should be possible to copy any kind of data files to the device via USB, and they must be accessible by the apps.

iPhone = WP7
iCloud = Skydrive = No basic file navigation into a home network.
iPhone Dev == WP7 Dev = 100$ !
etc... Please unlock this device, or get killed... by the concurence!
I feel sooo sad about it, as a regular windows user. -

USB mass storage. If not allowed by security to give direct access to phone memory - allow to access only to e.g one folder (dynamic size), which can be later accessed again only in Mass storage mode. And secure and we will have flash drive - otherwise copying from PC, where is no Zune is not possible

This dream won't come true. Nokia is looking into charging the batteries without a connector, (inductive charging). In this case the micro-USB connector will be removed. If the USB-interface is kept without real useful functions, (synking can be done via WiFi), Nokia won't suffer competitively due to the fact that other vendors keep this connector. (Other than the fact that the competing phone won't need a adapter to charge from USB.
