Maybe microsoft can implement rotation lock as an option where if it's set to true, all apps that do not have an orientation preference will default to the user's choice and if a particular app wants to be displayed a certain way it will override the user's choice.

It's actually unbelievable that this feature still doesn't exist - people can't switch to Windows Phone until this is fixed.

I mean that part of building an app is designing the best user experience for each orientation as well as the ability to lock the orientation. It's really quite simple in the code to do so.

But that said I wouldn't be on this thread if I didn't think MS could do more.

So do you mean we have to contact each developer and suggest to include this orientation or would it be appropriate if microsoft would just do it for the sake of customers who are already frustrated with this "simple setting" that has not been included..

Yes they are listening. This is the current position as I understand it.

The ability to lock orientation is left up to the app developer who can quite simply add the functionality to the code.

However in most cases the developers are not utilizing this ability correctly. This is different than other platforms, where that functionality is driven by the platform.

Did you make this phone to use or for you only? It seems that this phone will never be user friendly if even the basic functions aren't there. How lame can you get.

Please bring much this needed feature in the next update (GDR2)!! Also it would be great if an ADMIN could merge all these rotation-lock / orientation-lock suggestions, or at least the top 2 bigger ones (in Hardware & Operating System), which have nearly 4000 votes each (nearly 8000 in total).

Windows phone with Gyroscope device can support this feature. Orientation lock is must.

Using Nokia Drive on my motorcycle, but the screen is always rotating, how can I lock the screen rotation? Because I can't follow the map or the news about traffic, the screen is changing all the time rotating. PS: I have the Nokia Lumia 710 WP 7.5.

I used to be an axtremely loyal MS fan, but after using the Lumia 920 for 4 months now, I am so frustrated with this small non-feature. I have promised myself never to get a Windows phone again. This is a feature requested long before Mango, but they are just not listening to their customer base.
