  You can do this on some android phones, it is not mandatory, neither by default, rather an OPTION. I would love to have such option.

  need someway to hang up call when you are on call but in a different app like calendar without having to go back to main menu, then hit phone and then hang up

  No! Sometimes I accidentally press the off button with my thumb on my Lumia 800 when on a call. So.... BAD IDEA!

  Not gonna happen and should never be that way. It's also the only way to prevent accidental hangups when you have hair covering your ear and proximity sensor don't receive feedback - thus thinking there is nothing in front of it and turns screen on.

  Don't do this. When I am on a bluetooth call I use that button to turn the screen off.

  Noooo!! don't !! sometimes my screen goes on and I manually turn it off while I am calling!! So dont use this feature
