USB Car Audio
I wish I could plug my WP7 device into cars that have a USB port and listen/control the device over USB.

Don't you think FM transmitter is better as one would not be worried about where to put the phone as there would be no cable attached to the phone unless charging. what you only needed is to tune in your car radio to receive the FM signal from the phone. The range is 2 metres so you can play your music without the hassle of the cable (the usb port can also get damaged )

don't think fm transmitter is better than using USB, may for charging but i think its charges if you plugs it in. You just tune your radio, no cables needed, music can then be played on the car radio without worrying about were to put the phone as the range is not less than two metres

Would be great to have this with Nokia 920/WP8. Have resorted to an old iPhone for playing music in the car over USB. Please fix!

Microsoft, How many posts does it take before its even consider for evaluation? I like my WP8 but with such basic functionality not available, it makes me and people in general think twice about your products.

It would be great to be able to use DRM content (Xbox music pass, Pandora, etc) on WP8 via USB. Android and iPhone let you use/control Pandora via usb - please enable this in WP8!

I want to be able to control music applications and play DRM music via USB. Bluetooth Audio has terrible quality when compared with USB and Aux line doesn't allow me to control my music from the steering wheel. Currently the phone is recognized as USB Mass Storage. Android and iPhone can do this please fix this on WP8. For the record I have a 2013 BMW 3 series

I cannot play music over USB from my Nokia Lumia 920 in my new 2013 Toyota Sienna. I am not playing DRM music from Xbox. I am trying to play just the normal songs stored on my phone. Audio is working fine through Bluetooth. But, I am hoping to see/select albums and songs on my touch screen in the car. Am I missing anything here?

FYI - This has been fixed in Windows Phone 8, although DRM music (including Xbox Music Pass) does not play through.

I have always used my usb connector in the trunk of my Honda Goldwing and my Acura RDX to play music through the controls in the vehicles. Cant use either with my Lumia 920. What a joke. How many millions do you have in the bank? Why not spend a few thousand and hire an Apple engineer to fix this.

Since they've enabled MTP, we're 80% of the way to having USB Car Audio. The biggest gap now is that you can't play DRM'd music from Xbox Music Pass over the car audio link. If you're still frustrated by this, I suggest you vote for this: http://windowsphone.uservoice.com/forums/101801-feature-suggestions/suggestions/3509777-enable-mtpz

It's crazy I can not play music in my car via USB and control it with the steering wheel controls. I may return the phone and go back to the other big player that worked fine.

yes, excellent idea! I think this is something that should be automatically built-in to a smart phone

What I think the windows phone developers should do is to make the phone an easier one to be operated by the people of its own kind. with such USB car Audio system, yea it might be an idea to move the windows forward but put it as an optional app to be install on the phone in marketplace.

May be possible, when music on the phone would be accessable like on a usb memory stick. but then only local stored music is playable. Try it with bluetooth car radio. you can use as handsfree and also for any kind of music/sound coming from the phone.

@Lawrence Rodrigues You mirror my sentiments exactly - I'm actually considering buying an Alpine head unit for its Nokia (MTP) connectivity...begrudgingly.
I have a foolish believe that it would be good to own the 'holy trinity' of Nokia 920, Xbox and Surface, as I love much about all three devices, but I've not jumped yet as there are sooooo many niggling compromises to be made to make it work. -

Microsoft, you have such a promising thing going here. I'm sick of my iPhone 4, but being able to play music on my car stereo system through USB is a definite dealbreaker. Fix this and I will instantly become a Lumia 920/WP8 customer. Come on guys, I'm chomping at the bit to get my new phone as I'm due for an upgrade and I don't want it to be an iPhone 5.
