Custom sounds for SMS, MMS, Email, Notifications etc
Custom sounds for SMS, MMS, Email, Notifications etc, I know we can do ringtones on Mango but you can't set custom SMS sounds, email ect.
Should be able to set these sounds from a mp3. For instance i would love to hear the achievement unlocked or crackdown agility orb sounds...
The ability to make ANY sound (.mp3, .wav, etc.) imported onto the device via Zune or 3rd Party Application (ala "Zelda Sounds") to be used as the notification sound for most, IF NOT ALL, Windows Phone notifications to include, but not limited to, SMS, MMS, Facebook, Twitter, Email, etc.
P.S. This isn't even a "new" feature, this is just to keep pace with Android and iOS, which if this company is serious about doing, needs to make sure all current features on Windows Phone devices match those currently offered by competing manufacturers.
We can add custom ring tones, but alert tones are just as, if not more, useful. Please add them! Most people use their phones for texts and emails than they do for calls these days, so the abilitiy to add the custom alert tones would allow the user to identify who's calling based on the alert tone, be it a song clip, a custom-made sound, or even a recording of the person's name. This is a feature that is common on every other phone operating system.
It would be good to have the possibility to set a SMS Ringtone for a contact, same way like for calls.
Ability to create custom sounds for "new/incoming" text messages!
You should be able to add a custom ringtone to any alerts; text, email, etc.
I wish WP could support customized SMS, notification and email ringtones (sounds). That will be much cooler!!
I would like the xbox live achievement sound when I get a text. It would turn heads and create publicity.
You can assign custom ringtones for contacts in Mango, but you cannot assign custom alerts/tones for SMS messages or email messages.
While we have the ability to create custom ringtones finally, we still don't have the ability to make custom alerts and alarms.
We have custom ringtones through Mango but no text message tones. Should be just as easy to add them as Ringtones!
Custom sound tones for phone, text, email, etc.
If I have two email accounts: Exchange and Hotmail - I want the ability to have different sound notification when an email arrives in Hotmail vs. Exchange. Blackberry has this feature, and it is super useful. I could also set Exchange to not notify via sound at all, since I literally get an email every minute of the day on Exchange.
This feature is now available in Windows Phone 8.
And as always, if you think this feature or any other feature needs improvement be sure to create new product suggestions so we can track them all and other users can vote on your ideas. And while we can’t promise to ship every suggestion that gets submitted, we will be sure that our product development team receives your feedback. We’re always listening!
Until MSFT officially announce the features AND we see it on our phones, I remain skeptical as there has been no screenshots, videos, nothing to prove it is coming rather than just a line saying it will be a feature. The Video of this "lost" phone with the Bittersweet Shimmer (GDR3) does not show customisable messages at all.

Need custom sms alerts on my HTC windows 8
This is on the WPCentral news item for GDR3: http://www.wpcentral.com/alleged-screenshots-gdr3-and-nokia-bittersweet-shimmer
You have permission to hope, but until it's confirmed remain skeptical...
New stuff coming to Windows Phone but no alert tones.
Nokia to announce something tomorrow... I have my fingers crossed but at the same time I'm not holding my breath...
Apparently this feature is coming...but I cannot find a video that actually shows it working. I am skeptical until it shows up!
I agree, actual people who want this is probably over 100,000 but just don't know where to go, have learned how to live with it or have given up on the platform.
But in reality it is 60,000 thousand people, probably way more that would agree if they knew how/where to vote! Id bet that at-least 2 out of 3 who want or need this don't make their way to this forum. Microsoft could have several hundred thousand people disappointed with this phone because it doesn't have better SMS features. Its the most voted on feature for a reason, the numbers here are only survey results, id like to know what the real number is!
This seems like a very basic feature to add. Let's get it done.
Over 60k votes. Not people.
Wow theres only over 60000 people that agree with this thread yet the windows phone team will not even say anything.

SO thats all we get huh, No problem , Android would love my families 4 phones back 8) 8)_ 8)
Might as well forget it. Microsoft don't care at all. They just want our money.
It is always a hard slog to start from bottom in the grid but if you want to get to the top you need to do something quickly!
LV right on mate
MS better wake up and smell the coffee because the new iPhone 5c made it look like dirt.
Interesting, but the point I was making if you like not having custom messages then I am curious why you make a comment on it?
You are not going to convince us that it is not needed because to us it is.
Microsoft were innovators back in the 1980s. They are not anymore and Apple are quickly turning into them. However, this is not a debate I am going to have here.. If you want to debate this point then let me know and I you can attempt to correct me elsewhere.
Thanks! :-) Have a good day at skoolies lad!

I want to know when I have got a text message by hearing my trusted 'potato' (Keith Lemon) which has alerted me to the fact that I have got a text message for the past two years. Getting my old Samsung phone back out!
@JamesYoung I know... I know its just.... I... I just don't want to turn my back to Microsoft. The reason why is because I noticed that they have been doing things the right way (sorta) and in doing some personal research for myself I couldn't help but notice that Microsoft has been using and twisting everything everyone has given them only to see they are true innovators. "The Microsoft research team has made it possible now for everyone to be able to create apps and games on mobile devices and on the internet."
"Bing is better than Google."
"Internet explorer now supports more HTML functions and has true multi touch support."
Its just I've never been more satisfied by one company that I loved to hate. And it feels good to love people that have style and finesse.
I thought I would try out WP, looking for a change. But seriously, no custom notification tone? What kinda of dumb phone does not have that. I mean, my very first nokia dumb from from 2004 had that feature, way to go MS.
@Inf4mouskid, stay in school... Ok...
