Custom sounds for SMS, MMS, Email, Notifications etc
Custom sounds for SMS, MMS, Email, Notifications etc, I know we can do ringtones on Mango but you can't set custom SMS sounds, email ect.
Should be able to set these sounds from a mp3. For instance i would love to hear the achievement unlocked or crackdown agility orb sounds...
The ability to make ANY sound (.mp3, .wav, etc.) imported onto the device via Zune or 3rd Party Application (ala "Zelda Sounds") to be used as the notification sound for most, IF NOT ALL, Windows Phone notifications to include, but not limited to, SMS, MMS, Facebook, Twitter, Email, etc.
P.S. This isn't even a "new" feature, this is just to keep pace with Android and iOS, which if this company is serious about doing, needs to make sure all current features on Windows Phone devices match those currently offered by competing manufacturers.
We can add custom ring tones, but alert tones are just as, if not more, useful. Please add them! Most people use their phones for texts and emails than they do for calls these days, so the abilitiy to add the custom alert tones would allow the user to identify who's calling based on the alert tone, be it a song clip, a custom-made sound, or even a recording of the person's name. This is a feature that is common on every other phone operating system.
It would be good to have the possibility to set a SMS Ringtone for a contact, same way like for calls.
Ability to create custom sounds for "new/incoming" text messages!
You should be able to add a custom ringtone to any alerts; text, email, etc.
I wish WP could support customized SMS, notification and email ringtones (sounds). That will be much cooler!!
I would like the xbox live achievement sound when I get a text. It would turn heads and create publicity.
You can assign custom ringtones for contacts in Mango, but you cannot assign custom alerts/tones for SMS messages or email messages.
While we have the ability to create custom ringtones finally, we still don't have the ability to make custom alerts and alarms.
We have custom ringtones through Mango but no text message tones. Should be just as easy to add them as Ringtones!
Custom sound tones for phone, text, email, etc.
If I have two email accounts: Exchange and Hotmail - I want the ability to have different sound notification when an email arrives in Hotmail vs. Exchange. Blackberry has this feature, and it is super useful. I could also set Exchange to not notify via sound at all, since I literally get an email every minute of the day on Exchange.
This feature is now available in Windows Phone 8.
And as always, if you think this feature or any other feature needs improvement be sure to create new product suggestions so we can track them all and other users can vote on your ideas. And while we can’t promise to ship every suggestion that gets submitted, we will be sure that our product development team receives your feedback. We’re always listening!
BTW, MS/Nokia, in addition to LV's request, I'm pretty sure this phone still needs missed SMS repeat notification and a LED missed notification to be complete. I don't have a WP8 anymore, so perhaps there is a solution by now, but if not, while your on a roll why not just add those to!!! This is a necessity for anyone that's on call!!! I wouldn't retry this phone unless I knew it had both first!!!
That's awesome news Scotty!!! Sounds like a victory to me ;)
ckee I think Stephen Elop may have played a part in it, I emailed him several weeks ago some postings from this group and followed them up every time someone said That's it I'll not be buying Nokia and Nokia will never get my business' it was telling the ones that hit home where those from business people, Nokia's future clients they hope
thank you folks for being helpful to me and Stephen in building an excellent case for Microsoft who had lost their way, hopefully its been found again
Congratulation guys!!! Id bet that it happened due to the determination of the people on this forum ;) Hopefully they really mean it this time!!!
@ Microsoft, the days of releasing half done OS’s and using your loyal customers to test what you can get away with should be at an end already! If this does get added maybe ill try WP8 again in 1.5 yrs. when my contacts up, or maybe ill just stick with my Galaxy.
This really can't be difficult. I'm told there is a work around if you have an SD card but really we ought to be able to make whatever noise we want.
Is there a "moaning at MIcrosoft " ring tone available?
Good to hear, finally (It only took like 2 years) but Nov. - Dec? Why not now? Oh well at least Nov. - Dec. is not that far away. Lets hope they do this in a timely manner and it doesn't get left out because they run out of time or something like in the past.
Adam now if in Windows Phone 8.1 we get a working notification centre which will allow us to alter the notifications by the number of the SMS, source of the email etc. I'll ecstatic

I started this vote nearly 2 years ago. I'm very happy that these features are finally being added to Windows Phone. Thank you everyone for supporting my vote and getting this added to the OS. Thank you Microsoft Windows Phone Dev Team for listening to your users. (Eventually) :p
Microsoft is also building in support for custom sounds on text, voice mail, email, and reminders, a particular feature that has been missing in Windows Phone until now.
Update 2:30 AM ET: Windows Phone Central has learned of some additional features found in GDR3 through an additional source, unrelated to xs2k, that can be found below:
Additional Features in GDR3
• Custom sounds for text, voice mail, e-mail, and reminders
• Restore over Wi-Fi when you reset your phone
• Huge amount of work on Bluetooth with various vehicles and devices
No mention of custom MMS\SMS & email tone options in the next Windows Phone update.
yes Nokia are beginning to take charge but its only been less than a week since the announcement of the merger and you never know Microsoft may be planning to bring a proper notification centre in Windows Phone 8.1 'Blue' which may (note I say may) address this and if it doesn't Nokia may want to properly address requirements here in such an update, after all even the Asha phones can do this

So Nokia is pushing out updates more often now for it's touch, display and glass settings which proves that they can make changes to the system settings .... Hum...... So why no this?
Well now that Microsoft have taken over nokia does that mean someone might find this forum page and do something about it or are we going to have to wait until windows 9???? only another 3 months until my 2 years on contract are up... Maybe time to start looking at other operating systems that allow you to customise YOUR phone.....
In your original post, did you mean Contacts rather than Sources? I think I misunderstood your post because of that - I know what you mean now lol. And yes, you're right.
Per user, the only thing you can set at the moment is ringtones - so no unique SMS sounds for different people. Of course, this only works if you have caller ID as well.
But yes otherwise, each of the others (SMS, Email, Calendar) can all have their own sounds, but they won't be unique by their context (who/what/when/where).
You can set Ringtones, text/SMS, calendar and email from the Settings but not the volume for each, when they go quiet (so you can sleep) and vibration is on or off not again settable by time or function so you cannot set it to vibrate unless a text/SMS about the key service arrives in which case I want max loud sound of my choosing till I acknowledge it and not until I do
useless when compared to BlackBerry who long ago got the simple requirements of business (**** I could get close to my desired settings in Windows Mobile)
Plz do changes earlier for us
Even worse I foresee Microsoft not fixing this simple request till Windows Phone 9 in Q4 2014 and charging us for it from Windows Phone 8 because of the changes to the underlying system though of course apps are the mostly the same with a new SDK, all achieved by making Windows Phone 8 -> 9 a chargeable app in the store
Danny new customers will be caught in the same problem I am unless you notice this failure and miss the return by date your stuck like me with a two year contract
