Custom sounds for SMS, MMS, Email, Notifications etc
Custom sounds for SMS, MMS, Email, Notifications etc, I know we can do ringtones on Mango but you can't set custom SMS sounds, email ect.
Should be able to set these sounds from a mp3. For instance i would love to hear the achievement unlocked or crackdown agility orb sounds...
The ability to make ANY sound (.mp3, .wav, etc.) imported onto the device via Zune or 3rd Party Application (ala "Zelda Sounds") to be used as the notification sound for most, IF NOT ALL, Windows Phone notifications to include, but not limited to, SMS, MMS, Facebook, Twitter, Email, etc.
P.S. This isn't even a "new" feature, this is just to keep pace with Android and iOS, which if this company is serious about doing, needs to make sure all current features on Windows Phone devices match those currently offered by competing manufacturers.
We can add custom ring tones, but alert tones are just as, if not more, useful. Please add them! Most people use their phones for texts and emails than they do for calls these days, so the abilitiy to add the custom alert tones would allow the user to identify who's calling based on the alert tone, be it a song clip, a custom-made sound, or even a recording of the person's name. This is a feature that is common on every other phone operating system.
It would be good to have the possibility to set a SMS Ringtone for a contact, same way like for calls.
Ability to create custom sounds for "new/incoming" text messages!
You should be able to add a custom ringtone to any alerts; text, email, etc.
I wish WP could support customized SMS, notification and email ringtones (sounds). That will be much cooler!!
I would like the xbox live achievement sound when I get a text. It would turn heads and create publicity.
You can assign custom ringtones for contacts in Mango, but you cannot assign custom alerts/tones for SMS messages or email messages.
While we have the ability to create custom ringtones finally, we still don't have the ability to make custom alerts and alarms.
We have custom ringtones through Mango but no text message tones. Should be just as easy to add them as Ringtones!
Custom sound tones for phone, text, email, etc.
If I have two email accounts: Exchange and Hotmail - I want the ability to have different sound notification when an email arrives in Hotmail vs. Exchange. Blackberry has this feature, and it is super useful. I could also set Exchange to not notify via sound at all, since I literally get an email every minute of the day on Exchange.
This feature is now available in Windows Phone 8.
And as always, if you think this feature or any other feature needs improvement be sure to create new product suggestions so we can track them all and other users can vote on your ideas. And while we can’t promise to ship every suggestion that gets submitted, we will be sure that our product development team receives your feedback. We’re always listening!
Jason Microsoft can add the capability to this any time but are deliberately choosing not to (poor Nokia are going to be bankrupted by Microsoft)
Ridiculous. You want Windows phone to succeed, yet you leave out a ridiculously basic feature that's been available on even the cheapest phones on the market. On top of that you ignore a community of people supporting your product for 2 years without bothering to add the feature (of which I'm sure would be a ridiculously easy fix). I'll never buy a windows phone again, or suggest it to anyone else.
LV take it back as Microsoft have to learn they cannot fester non delivering feature sets like this but as you say the Nokia navigation is awesome and it was cheap so switch to something useful and keep the 521 as a navigation aid and lets see what 2014 brings, my contract is up 2014 so Microsoft better sort this out

Microsloth, how could you miss such a rudimentary feature and not correct it for YEARS?
James you're spot on

I could understand the "no response" and "ignore" if we were asking for something ridiculous...but this is SIMPLE

It has not happened yet because they do not want users to have a truly personal experience.
Microsoft have made a beautiful standing out OS but they fail to understand that sound is also vital to a mobile and customising a sound on a phone truly it makes it yours. Only a USER can determine what sound is THEM. So whilst all our WP devices probably LOOK different, they sound the same.
You put a load of Apple / Samsung phones on a table and yes sure they look similar, but I will know which one is mine because my notifications are unique to me.
You put a loud of WP on the table and unless the screen is unlocked, they will all look the same anyway. Also, when the message goes off you wouldnt know which / who's phone it is.
But Microsoft do not get this and wont acknowledge it and for some reason, cannot and will not fix it. Windows is one of the most extensible software packages in the world, there is simply no excuse.
They wont acknowledge us or talk about because TOO MANY want it. Saying "sorry" looks bad and critics will rip into them. Saying "no" will look bad for ignoring your user base. Saying "yes" admits defeat and weakens their control.
Whatever the case, they will take a knock and the longer they leave this the ****** to pick up the pieces. Just ignorant idiots. Totally totally unprofessional and arrogant.
Microsoft DON'T intend to make these options available and with GDR2 having had its Amber update from Nokia having been issued without it, I urge ALL owners of Windows's Phone's to return them if possible, GDR3 has it's rumoured been seen already and yes it contains a Notification Centre with separate volumes for email, ringtones etc. BUT not such a thing as separate text sounds so show Microsoft your distain back and return there defective handsets
I'll post it again, broken record here:
MS, really? No response yet? only this generic canned response?
pathetic. no wonder this (pretty cool) platform is not taking off. All other "smartphones" have this simple basic feature.
How many "votes" you need to aknowledge that your customers wish to be able to customize their phones to their likes in almost 2 years?
A $20 prepaid flip phone from WalMart allows custom SMS tones. Nearly three years on this option is still unavailable for Windows Phone. I currently own 5 Windows Phones. I regret to inform Microsoft that I feel like they are completely out of touch with their customers. We have asked begged and pleaded for you to listen, you have not. I want a divorce Microsoft. I have 5 phones, an Xbox,an Xbox 360,4 PCs,a laptop and a netbook. Your blatant disregard for what we want is intolerable. You lost me. I will NEVER buy Microsoft again. I am over your arrogance.
It's really annoying not being able to set the SMS, MMS, email notification to custom tones. All other smart phones have this capability. How could this get missed on such a nice phone?
I added my vote for what it is worth. The phone has some good qualities, but given the closed doors and brick walls for development as well as the current lack of functionality needed to integrate with our Microsoft infrastructure at work, I am headed back to an iphone...
JoeScuba my betting it'll never happen, Microsoft like us all sounding the same for some reason
58,000+ VOTES?!?! WHY HASN'T THIS HAPPENED YET?!?!
There are few notification tones available under the 'Ringtone' menu but the same aren't available for sms/email etc
I strongly advice windows to release a lot more customization options in a way of ringtones and stuff because it's very very limited right now. Besides that Whatsapp still also needs a lot of improvement in a way that i have to open the app first to get my messages. Hope this gets fixed soon because i really like the cellphone.
It's a **** shame, almost 60,000 fucken votes and nothing!! Boy no wonder Ballmer is on his way out. Hope Bill Gates comes back for the love of God.
Every other phone I have ever owned allowed customized notification tones. What is up Windows?
I think I am going to have to return it, really, you can't add custom notifications? I depend on text alerts from work I these alerts are terrible as you can't here them, certainly won't wake you up if you are sleeping. This is really not going to be fixed anytime soon?
