Brilliant idea. If it's good enough for competing phone platforms to offer this functionality as well, I would have thought as this is a Microsoft system all the way (Microsoft Media Center, Microsoft Zune syncing/transferring software and Microsoft Phone OS), this should definitely happen. As a person who likes to watch TV on my phone (while on the train), I'd use this a lot.

Not only WMP support should be added, but also support for the Windows 8 Xbox Music App.

Yes! There are remote control apps, but they need a third party software to work! Windows Media Player has the function to be controlled remotely, the WindowsPhone native player could do this control!

For those who might not know, the Xbox Smart Glass app does remote control for Xbox and much more.

There are plenty of apps for controlling media players on PCs.

For Media Center control, Ceton Companion for WP is the perfect app which does exactly what you want...full guide, recorded programs, series management...and it looks like it's on sale for $2.99 right now.

For Xbox remote control, you've got the SmartGlass app.

        Good idea !!!
An application to turn our device into a Windows media center application.

^^^I agree with Anonymous. It would be great to have an app that controls Media Center similar to Xbox Companion.

In my view the key feature here would be the ability to view the guide, change the channel (by selecting items from the guide) and record items remotely (again, through the guide)

i like the companion app to control zune music on my xbox but its not intuitive. at my house, ill let someone pick a song, and they just give my phone back to me bc they cant figure out how to use the app.

There are plenty of apps available in the marketplace to control your computer, including Windows Media Center, and the Xbox companion app has been released for xbox and works great. Though it would be nice to have a more fluid and native control over media center.

The XBox Companion is there and is okay.
I am only missing the Guide of my Windows Media Center as a WP7 App. It should work offline or out-of-home, and should ocasionally sync with the PC (e.g. via a Live Service, as LiveMesh does this with my IE Favortits and office settings).
Recording scheduler is all I need, the other features like remote control are of seccondary importance since when I need them I am at home and can use my real remote control.

I agree with TechnoTot to add a software remote which can deal with Media centre and media player of computer.

It would be extremely convenient if Microsoft would add an app to replace the old Media Center remote.
