Not that this feature shows up many times with different names
(The vote count is low but the customer needs are high!!)

How come Microsoft left this one function out ? it's a usability basic function....

Another very useful basic feature I miss coming from Symbian. Search in the phone book is already good (i.e. by initials) but please implement this thing as well.

An easy feature to implement, and one that's missed by so many users. Adding this would make windows phone 8 almost perfect.
I could (and might) write an app for this, but such a necessary feature should be standard out of the box.
this could be implemented and released as an update in as little as 24 hours. Come on Microsoft, you've created this new ux practically from the ground up, just give it the final polish it deserves.

I miss this feature from Windows Mobile 6. Please put this in as soon as possible! If I start dialing 23, it should auto-complete to all phone numbers containing '23' and all names starting with 'abc' and then having 'def' in them. This is 2012, so why doesn't this exist for Windows Phone 8?

Likely covered by T9 patents, most manufacturers license these patents already. At least open up the api:s so we can get a decent third party solution!

This is must. Calling to a contact that's not on history is now way too difficult.

Please include. I had similar functionality on my WM6.5 phone. Losing it after switching to WP 7.5 was a bit disappointing. Please add to WP 7.8!

Please do include this feature. This was very useful on Windows Phone 6.x and I miss having this, as it saved a lot of time typing phone numbers.

I miss this a ton. Both my Win 6.x and Android phone had it. Let’s face it... if all your social media contacts are in your people hub it’s a huge task to dial a contacts number. It should be straight forward and easy...start typing and it searches.

Eriq Skype should replace all dialer, messenger and also msn messenger and integrate all into one app that's what we need, with smart dialing...

@Hugo13 - While my response may sound a bit curt, if you look through the comments there are hundreds of people between this thread and OTHERS (all asking for the same thing) who are already aware of the 3rd party dialer apps. The issues with these 3rd party apps have already been communicated in the threads. Long story short - We need a better native dialer with same functionality we had before in older versions of Windows Mobile. Not an unconnected extention.

For those of you interested 7dialer, phone dialer, call dialer +, are the apps that make this possible :-)

There's some apps on marketplace that do this but its strange that it doesn't come built in the OS, it should be there.
