This is a must have.
Its a must have functionality.
I would like to add that we should be able to paste a number in the call keyboard.

An app exists in App store for this purpose.
Its titles "RapDialer".
I think that's a missed function in windows phone. Please, this idea is very useful!
Need these features! Speed dial and smart dialing is missed since coming from my purview 808
I've had this phone for 4 days and think I'll return it. No speed dial, only a comma and period on the first screen of the keyboard, the nav system is hard to use...

Yes exactly, like dialing 5654 should search for the contact John and more as per the alphabets assigned on the numbers!

It was there on all previous symbian phones. All N-series and music express series for example. It's one of the best feature to find a contact just by knowing only a part (first name/last name etc) of his/her name when you can't remember name or number. Just key in few letters and the cell would show up all similar matches whether those are in first or last name. It's a way better than currently on any android or iOS. Miss that feature so much.
Athough this would be a hectic feature, I HATE seeing spelling errors in headings and people then getting behind it :( - can this mistake be fixed please - looks like a joke atm, something not to be taken seriously.... and we don't want that
pls addd this....
This is 1 of the 2-3 things i miss from my old android phone, the smart dialing is a must for me, i need to install an app for this but this should be from the software, thank you and hope u will do something
I strongly agree
I strongly agree. On WM5 you only had to start dialing a number, or a name by using the numeric keypad. It's a time saver.
I strongly agree.i struggle to figure out missed calls because I couldn't search contacts by phone number.please bring it asap.it's 2013 now.
yes, I came to WP8 from Win6.5(HD2). I miss this feature so much
Not that this feature shows up many times with different names
(The vote count is low but the customer needs are high!!)
How come Microsoft left this one function out ? it's a usability basic function....
Another very useful basic feature I miss coming from Symbian. Search in the phone book is already good (i.e. by initials) but please implement this thing as well.

An easy feature to implement, and one that's missed by so many users. Adding this would make windows phone 8 almost perfect.
I could (and might) write an app for this, but such a necessary feature should be standard out of the box.
this could be implemented and released as an update in as little as 24 hours. Come on Microsoft, you've created this new ux practically from the ground up, just give it the final polish it deserves.
