Allow first gen phones to tether

Widely anticipated in Mango, but eventually unimplemented, the USB/wi-fi tethering function available to all second gen phones must be made available to early-adopters.

We need USB tethering full stop. In the UK unlimited internet with tethering is quite common and mobile network speeds are often faster than landline/broadband speeds. I can tether via wifi but it is not reliable and kills the battery life. Can we just have a USB tethering/internet sharing option as quickly as possible please? It is available on all rival OSs and has been for some time.

Wifi-tethering works since Mango on my Omnia 7, but it's Telekom-branded. Weird, that it is not working on branding-free phones.

Microsoft Windows Phone.. whats this...! Cant even share my mobile internet to my laptop, I feel microsoft is not listening, Thats y microsoft is not numbered in top 1 position in mobile phone business, just a tingling UI and touching senses is not enough for Windows mobile, it needs to communicate efficiently and share both ways, i have seen adroid based mobile even works as wifi hotspot to tether its internet sharing, but i am really depressed buying this phone at this cost please microsoft please ...! this is not the way the future meant to be, kindly add an update and see that it does provide some workhorse kind of features, tethering is basic need kindly give us that....

I disagree the thread needs to stay up unitl there is direct information to enable this on first gen phones as my provider Orange say they do allow it but the Mozart cannot do it HTC say it can but the fault lies with windows so im here looking for an answer on how exactly I get this done.
so to me the thread is still valid.

This topic should be removed as first gen WPhones can already do this BUT this is a feature that is controlled by the mobile phone operators or the phone makers (HTC, Nokia etc). Contact and ask them to make it happen.

Please remove this topic and move on.

HTC Mozart Telstra Australia, now has Wi-Fi sharing

Just FYI, this has been fixed by HTC on my Mozart (a while ago now, I forgot to update here) but only for Wifi. There's no USB connection sharing option, which sucks because my main computer has no wireless receiver!

My LG Optimus 7 (Vodafone) does tether so maybe it is a network rather than OS issue.

in fact all ALL devices to tether.
especially OPN devices - i have a LG Optimus 7 and a Lumia 800 (both OPN) - neither ids able to tether.
this is childish - EVERY other OS can do, even your old Windows Mobile 6.5 - you hear me Microsoft??

HTC and other makes might support tethering but on the Nokia Lumia 800 you wont find it at all, which is a shame.
