Our company does not use Exchange but we send/receive encrypted (S/MIME) emails. Is it supported in WP8? iOS 6 supports S/MIME. In Android we can use combination of Djigzo and K9 Mail. Are there 3rd party products capable of sending/receiving encrypted (S/MIME) emails in WP8?

Only half-implemented. SD contents not encrypted, and not ignored when SD is not present (like on Lumia 920). Still can't sync to my corporate Exchange account.

What about WP 7.8? Is this another case of Microsoft letting their users down?

Good that this is coming for Windows Phone 8. What about existing users? It should also be made available in 7.8 update for all existing users.

Really need this feature with alphanumeric password for phone lock. Our company policy is set such that if you r phone does not support alphanumeric password, you can not sync company outlook on your phone.

Due to HIPAA constraints, all devices syncing with Exchange must have device encryption. I currently use OWA from my WP7, but that's a hassle that should be unnecessary. It's like having a sharp pebble in a nice pair of shoes. Other than this, I'm still thoroughly impressed with my phone.

Congratulations WP 7.5!! I have no choice but to go back to BlackBerry since you will not fix the on device encryption problem. I hope you catch the sarcasm because I am laying it on THICK!!!!

I have read the Microsoft paper on Windows Phone security, which is impresssive, but this information is not being adequately communicated to corporate customers, including state government folks. They need to have explained to them why on-device encryption isn't really necessary for Windows Phone 7.5 and how they can setup an exception for Windows Phones versus the Exchange security requirements for Android or Apple phones. This is more a marketing issue than a technical one, as Windows Phone 7.5 seems to have all the security anyone needs and more.... thanks.

Support for digital certificates and S/MIME encryption for email, as well as on-device storage encryption are crucial to business users (like me).

For an O/S that is ideal for collaboration, the lack of device encryption is strange. It should surely be easy to implement a feature that even android devices have at present?

When will Windows phone team provide this basic function as other phone has? I have been waiting for over a year and I am getting the iPhone soon (my old phone is up for renewal). My company does not approve the Windows phone 7 device. My company is a fortune 500 company. We have over 100,000+ employees and look likes Microsoft is ignoring the business sector. How sad!!!!! I am a MS developer but I have to shift focus to other platform because MS is dragging their feet......how frustrated.
