Enable linear screen brightness adjustment
Now wp7 only got 3 levels of brightness adjustment. We want a smooth linear adjustment like iOS and Android to customize our own brightness level.

I have a new Nokia Lumia 720 The display is terribly shiny, low resolution (for windows phone) and image contrast is terrible. All these factors cause me serious eye pain.

Microsoft please have a look at the display issue which I believe it's a primary concern. I have purchased lumia 720 and unable to use it just because of high back light in dark area. Its hurting my eyes. It should have slider option that can provide full control over the display back light ,similar like android and iOS.

The lowest setting of the 3 available is to bright for my eyes. It would be nice to be able to adjusted the brightness setting with the ring tone toggle button to quickly suit ones needs.

Most of the time when using the auto-adjust brightness setting, the brightness gets set too low. Like if the room is pitch black, the brightness setting will be set to low. I really don't want it that low. But I also don't want it all the way up. But if I set the brightness to medium, then later in the day I'm outside and it's bright, medium is just too dark. But since I set the brightness to medium earlier that morning because the auto-brightness is just too dim.. I have to go through the brightness settings and set it to high or auto. Others have mentioned the need for a slider bar for brightness, instead of just 4 settings, high, med, low, or off. I agree that there should be more settings in between, and a slider bar here would be ideal.

+2 The lowest setting isn't low enough. Plus, the auto-adjustment feature bounces between the levels instead of linearly. Also make an API to turn off button backlights for apps like alarm clocks.

Just have bought Nokia Wireless Charging Stand (DT-910), and the Nokia Accessories app has a kind of screen saver with a great brightness adjustment feature: you can swipe up or down and the brightness of the screen will change respectively.
So the best experience would be to advance those now-present three brightness settings with the fourth, "Custom", and add a button that will bring the user to the special screen where he or she will be able to swipe up and down and adjust brightness. That screen should have OK & Cancel buttons.

Lowest setting is too bright. Also what annoyes trying to read at night, is bottom three "button" lights, too bright, those lights needs to be killed off. (back, windows and search).

The iPhones dimmest light setting saved me from boredom when my eyes got severely infected. I'd hate to die of boredom by supporting windows

The lowest possible brightness is too high on many phones! This Should be lowered by adding "lowest" to the existing options

I don't see the need for a brightness slider. Windows Phone was designed in a different manner and picking "OPTIONS" rather than a slider is different and representative of this OS. HOWEVER, I would possibly appreciate a couple more settings (Rather than just Low, Medium, High add two more settings in between....Low-Med and Med-High? Heh)

608 people don't understand the rationale behind the feature. How often do you make one hundredth adjustments to screen brightness. Nothing needs to be changed here.
