I don't understand why such requirement is needed.
The goal is to have smooth user experience.
Phones already have separate CP and AP (communication and application processors) but why would I need dual core for my phone applications?!
This is,frankly, stupid idea coming from the Android world. -

It will be needed in the future but for now, single core processors are fine. If you want a hardcore experience, wait for Windows 8.

This OS needs dual-core processors AND better GPUs. Not one current WP7 handset could run Infinity Blade or Shadowgun on usable settings, and cutesy games like "Kinectimals" are for people who use a Wii as their primary gaming console, not a PS3 or XBox 360.

and by the time apollo came out with dual core support , android and ios are in quadcore arena, quad and dual core support is a must for marketing and dont stand one generation behind with the competetion.

i have a htc titan .. i know it is fast, faster than iphone 4 and other android with single core, but when you are using 3d and cpu intense apps, you cant compete with 2 or 4 core, and the most important buyer always look at spec when they choose a phone, first time user dont know wp ui is fast with single core, they just compare spec. and plz microsoft dont play catch up release support of 2 and quad core support for the next apollo, and then let the OEM play de choice, if not you are going to lose a great spec demading user base, sad to hear microsoft playing catch up, and tired hear wp is fast even with single core........

oh my god. not a new cpu for me, id rather a far more advanced GPU.
what do you expect? if you pitted a 1.6GHz Tegra 3 (new nvidia quad core that isnt looking promising) against my 1.6GHz laptop Llano CPU my Llano will still win. specs arent everything. get over it. -

This is retarted. Only **** OS's need duo cores that badly. WP7 cleverly uses a GPU. No need for duocores!

Even if it's due later, it needs to be allowed to come to consumers NOW. Every other big player has jumped on this bandwagon with fantastic results. This is one of two things I specifically came here to vote on, and I don't even care about mobile gaming.

I know WP7 runs smooth as butter even with a single core cpu for pretty much everything I've tried, but some high quality 3D games would be nice and we'll need dual/quad core for that.

For better UI while apps run in multi-tasking.
