Transit directions for Windows Phone

Bing Maps has transit directions on the website, Bing Maps for the BlackBerry PlayBook has transit directions. Bing Maps on Windows Phone does not have transit directions. It's baffling that this is even the case, and it's unacceptable. Nokia Maps and Nokia Transit don't yet have directions for all the cities that Bing (and Google) Maps do, and Google hasn't released Google Maps for Windows Phone. Third party programs that access the Google Maps APIs, such as gMaps and Transit Directions eventually stop working due to API changes on Google's part. There is really no excuse for not including Transit Directions in Bing Maps. It should have been a feature of WP7.0, and definitely should have been included in the 7.5 update. Don't continue this error, provide transit directions in Bing Maps for WP7.8, and make sure that all of Bing's transit data is available for Nokia Maps in WP8.

Here's an idea... Why dont you use Mango Transit, which uses Bing Transit and gives all the features of the native Bing Maps? If you support this developer, I'm sure he could offer you everything Microsoft could and more...

Hey everyone. I initially voted for this but I use the Nokia HERE Transit app in Sacramento, CA, USA and it works great. It even has the transit info for the smaller county routes, not just the city proper. So, try that app and if it works for you, please redistribute your votes. We may have gotten an answer from Nokia, rather than Microsoft. Either way I'm happy :) The more of us that try to use the Nokia HERE app, the more it can improve. If it doesn't work for you, then post here your location and also post to Nokia. We choose to support them so lets make our voices heard. I of course would like to have the data integrated into Bing...I hate installing tons of apps. But while it's here, lets all give it a try now that it has been released for most Windows Phones.

I agree. All the maps Apps in Hong Kong lack real help with public transportation. Another deal killer for me.

I live in NYC, and the Bing maps application is useless to me without subway info on it. I'd much prefer to use the built in map application instead of a third party Google Maps app, but... without subway support (and ideally biking route info. With audio turn-by-turn directions), I can't.

        Please add this features.

This would greatly help users whose cities have yet to release a public transit app on Windows phones. For example, it took ages for mine to release one for the Android market but I had Google maps to compensate.

I must say this is a feature i miss a lot, specially as i have a non-nokia WP

Mango Transit does this but it has adverts and the functionality really should be integrated since Bing freaking has it built in.

if only bing maps had this, i would use this over gMaps (also a very good maps profram powered by google)

Being from NYC, taking mass transit is more convenient than driving. I tend to use google maps over wp maps because of this!

This is the reason I abandoned my Windows Phone and went back to iOS. Ownership rates of automobiles are plummeting among young people in the US. Public transit isn't just for poor people anymore. ;-)

This dearly missed feature is probably how I most use Google Maps when I had an iPhone. It was so useful.

i really, really need public transit directions on my phone. right now I use a crummy 3rd party app to do this that relies on Google Maps, which is just about the only thing I miss from Android.

absolutely insulting that they want to deny us critical functions on our smartphones.

Its a SMARTPHONE for chrissake. in 2011, this is unacceptable. instead of forcing us to use the neglected bing maps app, allow google maps to work on the windows mobile 7 platform.

its absolutely insulting that they care not to upgrade critical aspects of their windows phone

The feature is available on the bing maps web site (but not the mobile web site). For people living in cities with good public transport like NYC, this is a very important feature (and it is available on competing mobile operating systems).
