No Windows Phone 7.8... Please update us to Windows Phone 8
Please give current users an option to upgrade to Windows Phone 8. Leaving users stuck in an obsolete OS is the worse you can do.. As a developer and a tech blogger I would very much like to see WP users getting the latest and the best and not left stuck in a world of fragmented operating systems.

At-least please give device encryption so that I can atleast check my corporate emails. Having smart phone that too costly one and not able to do basic thing is sometimes frustrating. That Cheap Android can do it, why not great WIndows Phone?

Link, Ekes and others, this is an unacceptable excuse. Linux runs on tons of completely different hardware. Windows NT runs on Intel x86, x86-64, PowerPC, MIPS, ARM and Itanium.
Also WP8 was based on WP7, so they already have the a working kernel. Also WP7 apps are compatible with WP8.
If Microsoft is not able to make it work properly, it means they have really bad developers, which is not the case. I can't ever imagine they don't have a WP8 firmware for the previous hardware running on their build servers, it would be a really big mistake and they should fire the developing manager.I feel very sad that Microsoft invented this kernel ******** just for marketing purposes. I expect they change their mind, otherwise Nokia Lumia 800 it will be the First and the Last Windows Phone device I'll buy in my life

@deno, no, they can't.
Number 1: hardware is completely different. Remove all the security features, it might run, sure, but that leads us to #2...
Number 2: To port WP8 to WP7 devices, NONE of which have hardware encryption, is to undermine the security of the entire platform. We like security.
Stop whining.

@Eckes
You are wrong.
They can easily extend their hardware support for WP8. So older devices can run WP8 too.

Oh my.... you don't get it do you? Windows Phone 8 bases on a completely different Kernel, so the Upgrade from Windows Phone 7.5 could never be "Windows Phone 8", simply because it isn't Windows Phone 8!!! Bringing the same Experience of Windows Phone 8 to Windows Phone 7.5 and calling it Windows Phone 7.8 is enough, don't you think so? Do you really think that WP7.8 won't get Bluetooth Data Transfer ability? Do you think WP7.8 won't get the improved intelligent keyboard technique which makes writing on your smartphone easier?
As you know, WP7.8 is also gonna get the WP8 homescreen. So why not be patient and wait for it? Just wait what WP7.8 will have and what it won't. Thereafter, you can complain, if there are things to complain about.
Thanks for your attention! Have a nice day! -

It's all $$$ based support.
This will be the LAST Windows Phone I own - and it's all the OS reason. Can't even play Flash! Ringtones, wallpapers, applications (Office!) all suck; and don't exclude ZUNE from that list. Do people at MS even try this **** out before they send it out for self-destructon? -

You're a developer and a tech blogger and you don't understand that this isn't possible due to hardware limitations? Yikes.

Please don't give the excuse that our 1.5GHz Lumias bought less than 6 months ago aren't fast enough to run WP8, it's inconceivable!!
