Support ability to open .wav files on Windows Phone - we can't get voicemail
Emails sometimes contain a transcription of a voicemail and as an added convenience attach the actual voicemail in the form of a .wav file. I have had all the windows phones(6.x and 7.x) and this always worked flawlessly.

Please add old codecs for wav...this would not be difficult.

Fix it or it will be the very last Windows product I will consider purchasing! I consider this feature critical.

I sell voicemail systems that use this codec for email attachments. I now have to warn the customers not to use windows phone 8 because they won't be able to use this feature. I have a Nokia 620 and like it alot except for this missing function.

I get wav files both from my office Cisco system and from my Time Warner home phone voicemail. WP8 will not play either. Played fine on WP7. Really need this ability back.

The ability to open uLaw wav files (voice mail attachments) within email would greatly appreciated. I am surprised that this is not supported natively by the WP8 media player. I am certain this will be addressed in a future update. Sooner would be better than later.
Coming from an iOS device and I'm not giving up on the WP8 platform yet. :)

Bummer, Lumia 920 just got new update a minute ago. But this feature is still not working. I love my Windows Phone 8 and really this is the only feature that I have to use another tool (phoneconvert.com) for. I wouldn't switch back to any other iPhone or Android device for this missing feature.

That's true, John H. We were all told that Microsoft was finally on a faster update schedule with Windows, Office, and Windows Phone. Instead of bi-weekly or monthly patches for small stuff like this, we're still waiting on quarterly or bi-annual behemoth updates. As Paul Thurrott pointed out regarding Windows 8, Microsoft still doesn't get it when it comes to quicker iteration.
I like my Windows Phone quite a bit, and I don't plan to replace it over something so trivial. But it is frustrating that they can't get Windows Phone on a release schedule similar to the Surface where it sees monthly updates. This platform is still quite immature in some ways, and anything less frequent than monthly updates is too infrequent.

I had WP7 and WAV files played fine. I was able to listen to my company's voice mails. I then "upgraded" to a new WP8 phone and WAV wouldn't play. I assumed something was wrong and searched the Net for the "fix". Surprise! That's normal. What!?
Also, I'm very embarassed because I talked a coworker into the WP8 platform (that he really wasn't interested in). He bought a Lumia 920 with me. Needless to say he's not happy about this very important feature not working. Almost every day he reminds me.
I'm SO dissatisfied that the few updates that have been released have not fixed this. Also, there is a major issue with the camera going to a green screen and not working under certain conditions. (A reboot will fix it for a while.) This has existed with WP8 from day one, and there is still no fix.
I'm done with the WP platform. Microsoft, you're too unresponsive! I can't wait for my contract to end. Unfortunately I have another year of disappointment ahead of me.

I think the same about this. Next phone won't be a WP if this is not solved. I really need to listen to my voicemal. Same issue with nog having a generic softphone.
Last windows phone for me, what a joke!

Because of this when my phone upgrade date comes in a month I am going to Android.
Such a simple feature with a simple fix, yet no Microsoft response at all despite the demand. This just shows how much they support the platform.

We have 4 WP phones users (HTC 8X) in our group at work. Even the Microsoft Lync saves the voicemail message as a .wav file. Why can't Microsoft get on the same page?

Please allow for MP3 downloads on the Nokia Lumina 920. I am in school and this would help me to receive audio recordings of lectures!!

Microsoft, this question was asked back in December 2012. There have been multiple updates since.
Why has this been left out and not reimplemented?

Kifrez - I hope it's fixed soon, because there is a work-around, but who needs the fuss.
The work-around is to set up an account at www.PhoneConvert.com. It's a bare-bones website, but its service works perfectly everytime.
You will need to be able to forward your voicemail email with the attachment still attached - something which is difficult from a Windows Phone if your email account is not a POP3 service. If your email is an IMAP account, it won't forward attachments with forwarded emails (another pet peeve of mine with WP). In that case, if it's possible to do so with your company's IT guys, do the following, outlined in this link:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/winphone/forum/wp7-wppeople/forwarding-email-attachments-wp-75/357d0bf6-1c78-49ce-87c4-a5eb253dda99I hope that helps in the interim.
