The current WP8 sync app (for Win7 at least) is a cruel joke! Calling it a beta release is optimistic claptrap. It's simply not usuable in any practical sense and completely undermines the utility of WP8 devices as a lifestyle device.
It needs to be fixed.

This feature is now available in Windows Phone 8. Please note that while Windows Phone 8 doesn’t support USB mass storage with a full file explorer, it does support reading/writing pictures, music, videos and ringtones very similar to the way you normal would with a USB drive.

This is the single most valuable update in the 7.5 rollout for me. After hearing for a while that multiple Google calendars will be supported, and then learn that it's either a hassle or possibly not functional, I'm very disappointed.

I don't think this needs to compete with iTunes. It just needs to work! The current sync software is useless.
